This is a wonderful old wood and mother of pearl inlaide bowl from the Fiji Islands. This wood inlaid Mother of Pearl Bowl are handcrafted , especially created from local Fijian woods. Families work together, as children learn the art at very young age. Children's hands break the shells in tiny pieces, bigger and more experienced hands carve the wood to then insert the mother of pearl. Just one bowl takes many days and several stages to finish. Everything from tables and love seats to bowls and platters are first carved in patterns and then small pieces of mother of pearl are painstakingly inserted into the carved sections, creating a beautiful piece that is distinctively Fiji Island style. This would be a lovely item for your home or to give as a gift.
