This is a simple, but unique Stone Edged Adze from the Matty Islands, Wuvulu Province, Papua New Guinea. This Adze has a Stone embedded in the wood hand handle, is called a Wuvulu Island breadfruit splitter adze. The Rock has a blunt chisled edge, which is achieved shaping and by grinding the outer surface. This tool is known as "toki Fasua" (tridacnaAdze). Fiber is often found in the form of cordage and used as a binding or a suspension cord. This old adze is a fine example of a wood cutting, carving tool from before western contact brought in metal tools. These adzes are are considered ceremonial objects and very valuable to their owner.
