The Baule are one of the Akan peoples. They moved west to the Ivory Coast more than 200 years ago and adopted masking traditions from their neighbors, the Guro, Senufo and Yaure peoples. This wonderful Monkey mask is elegant, detailed and relatively realistic. The masks are used in secular public dance performances. This particular Monkey Mask was used in ceremonies to keep the hunters safe during bush hunting. This piece is quite old and includes the stand.
This wonderful mask would compliment your collection or home.
