This is a simple, but unique Adze from the Matty Islands, Wuvulu Province, Papua New Guinea. This Adze has a Cutting Splitter embedded in the wood hand handle, is called a Wuvulu Island splitter adze. The Tridacna Shell has a blunt chisled edge, which is achieved shaping and by grinding the outer surface. This tool is known as "toki Fasua" (tridacnaAdze). All weapons and tools were made from wood, shell and bone. These adzes are are considered ceremonial objects and very valuable to their owner. A wonderful addition to your home and collection
