This is a nice looking antique iron pad lock with a levers system mechanism. Finely hand crafted in India and a nice shape in iron. Good working condition and a rich patina. As in most countries in Asia, padlocks were made according to the old, primitive artisan traditions until a bit into the 20th century. Locks were made by nomads, traveling locksmiths, and locksmiths working in small shops in the cities. Traditionally they sold their goods in bazaars or markets, and in many cases they made their locks on-site or nearby. These are wonderful collectors items and around 40-50 years old.

This is a very unusual and beautiful lock. I have this strange love of old locks and keys and old boxes. I wish I could know the story behind each piece. (Etsy makes my fetish way too easy for me.) World of Bacara gave great service with their careful packaging and quick shipping. I am very pleased with this purchase.
