African Statue Luba Tribe Wood Figure Zaire

Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a Beautiful Kneeling Carved Luba Female Figure from the Tribal People of Zaire. These figures are called Mboko, who is holding a cup for divination purposes. Among the characteristics of Luba sculpture are intricate hair-dress with a grooved diagonal band separating the hair-line from the forehead; eyes shaped like coffee-beans and small simplified ears. Women were cult guardians, and the royal wives played an important role and were sent as emissaries are kneeling, sitting whose upraised hands serve as supports for bowls. In the healing ritual, the sorcerer would use the kabila, or daughter of the spirit, which consisted of a figure and receptacle, which were also placed at the entry to the house during the childbirth. A wonderful Luba statue to add to your collection or home.

Shows age, has a nice patina, and is in good condition.
