This is an Extraordinary and Beautiful Kula Mwali Ornate Beaded Shell from the Massim People, Gawa Island, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. This Kula shell currency has red, blue, green and yellow beads woven around the many large cowrie shells with red discs and dangling shells. Kula is a ritual trading culture existing in eastern Papua New Guinea. It is essentially a network of villages joined by a common trade route, known as the Kula Circle. There is a saying around Papua New Guinea that goes once in Kula, always in Kula. This is magnificent ornate Kula shell and would be a wonderful addition to your collection, a real collectors piece, one of a kind and Museum Quality.
