This is a fabulous Beaded Leather Cape or Skirt from the Masai of Kenya. Olekesana is a woman shirt of cape from the Masai. This cape is made from goatskin or sheepskin and decorated with beads on the surface. These bead designs may have a particular design for a specific category of wearer. The skirt is embellished with ocher. Such skirts were as garments and part of married women dress. Such capes would be worn by women from the day they would get married until their death. These capes or skirts can still be seen worn by women during important ceremonies. This skirt or cape is in great condition showing a small amount wear and tear. These are extraordinary and usually one of a kind due to the fact that the Masai women create their own designs and beaded items for themselves.
