This is a 1950's beautiful Old Carved Wood Temple Plaque from Indonesia. This plaque is carved out of a single piece of wood. Temple plaques were considered works of art and held a very prestigious place within the temple as well as a having specific meaning or message. This particular temple plaque has the figure of the Wayang puppet. These puppets told ancient dramatic stories through their use of puppetry. This form of art is found in Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia, wherein a dramatic story is told through shadows thrown by puppets and sometimes combined with human characters.
