Stools in Africa are symbolic of status, and the stools from the Gurage are carved for the chief and the council of elders. Chieftain is hereditary and whereas formerly the chief had political power, he will now act more as a mediator in clan affairs. This museum quality old stool would be a fantastic addition to your home and collection.

I was extremely delighted w/ my stool from Ethiopia! It came very well-packaged. Was a heavy and solid piece in great condition! It was coated in a light scrim of dirt....(possibly Ethiopian dirt, which made the piece all the more wonderful. It had been crafted and used!) but a quick wipe was all it needed!
